Developing People Internationally(DPI)

Context

Many organizations now recognise that their current human resource of international project and team personnel would benefit from training in intercultural competence and techniques to improve their international communication skills. Project managers and team members potentially face challenges in terms of differences in core value systems, communication style and varying expectations of leadership and teamwork.

Objectives

This course is designed to improve international team´s performance through developing  intercultural competences in three broad areas:

2.  Understanding yourself and other members of your team.
3.  Developing communication strategies and skills to get the best out of   international teams.

Content
Developing People Internationally (DPI) is a training approach plus a flexible collection of training resources which supports professionals working internationally to manage nine core challenges for those wanting to build and maintain high performing teams.


Each unit has three learning modules:

1. An international context/ Introduction
This aims to set the scene for the unit focus.

2. Video learning
Tasks based on one or two scenes in the life of an international project team

3. Audio learning
Tasks based on two or three audio interviews with managers working internationally

Resources

The learning modules link you directly to the following resources:

1.  Extracts from a  33 minute video film which portrays incidents in the life of an international project team.
2.  80 minutes of audio interviews with …. managers working internationally.
3.  A glossary covering key intercultural and management terms.
4.  Web links to country profiles and other useful websites
5.  A Best Practice file on running and participating in international projects.
6.  A TIP (The International Profiler)  competency overview which identifies key intercultural competencies.

Optional: Pre-seminar - The International Profiler (TIP) assessment tool

Each participant would be invited to complete The International Profiler, a web-based psychometric tool analysing international competencies and working style, in advance of the seminar. Debriefing will be conducted by an licensed trainer who will offer feedback to support the seminar content.
